Microsoft’s Azure platform helps enable the highest level of data privacy for Schneider Electric’s customers
Andover, MA. – September 29, 2015 – Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management and automation, today announced an extension of its collaboration with Microsoft Azure to provide the cloud platform for all Wiser Air™ smart thermostats. The collaboration will help to protect customer user data from potential security threats such as hackers or viruses aimed at collecting personal data. The Wi-Fi connected thermostat and demand response management system (DRMS) designed for utilities, builders, and their residential customers is the latest software solution to leverage Azure to provide improved security, scalability, reliability and energy efficiency.
As the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes more integrated in every facet of human life, utilities face a demand from customers to keep up with technology, engage with their customers in new ways, and offer current ways to monitor energy use. The interface and data required for new energy efficiency and demand response programs can be challenging for utilities. Additionally, as utilities are tasked with tracking more customer data than ever with smart meters, there is growing concern about how utilities can keep that data safe and secure. Wiser Air helps utilities meet energy efficiency and demand response needs while engaging customers in a meaningful way. Through this collaboration with Microsoft, utilities can trust Wiser Air will protect residential customer data while offering homeowners simple on-the-go home control and greater energy management opportunities.
Azure is relied upon by organizations both big and small to help protect sensitive organization and customer data. The platform’s scalability features allow customers to scale their data up and down faster than ever. With Azure, scaling is no longer an expensive part of data collection, but a tool that seamlessly reacts to the amount of use on the system. The Azure platform has been a preferred provider for Schneider Electric’s software applications, such as StruxureWare, since 2013.
“Protection of information is always top of mind as Schneider Electric creates more sophisticated home energy management solutions. Thanks to the security features created by Microsoft, utilities who provide Wiser Air to their customers know they have access to the latest data security technology,” said Yann Kulp, Vice President of Residential Energy Solutions, Schneider Electric. “This alliance gives utilities, and their customers, peace of mind.”
